At the Brown [University] Daily Herald: "Brown to clarify policy on emotional support pets."

I am certainly sympathetic to the idea that college students (and really anyone) who needs them should have access to pets for emotional support. There are reams of research demonstrating how beneficial pets can be to anyone, and particularly to people with anxiety or depression.

However- as those of us who've been college-age human beings know- people that age are sort of notorious for their shaky relationship with responsibility, especially a responsibility as time-consuming and demanding as pet ownership.
