I'll admit, I am sometimes disdainful of the "pulse ox" monitor...

...but after reading this article, I feel like kind of a jerk. We take our humble pulse oximeters for granted because they are only one of a whole suite of monitoring equipment we use for patients undergoing surgery. Once again, it appears that (somewhat sadly) our veterinary hospital is better-equipped than many human medical facilities in the developing world.
